This course covers:

Variety selection for cold climates (zones 3-7): including factors contributing to cold hardiness, tracing rose genetics, bloom cycles, preferred varieties by color, hybridizer tips.

Plant and planting choices: We’ll teach you about bare root plants vs. potted plants, and own root vs. grafted and budded roses, siting rose beds, planting practices and windows for cold climates, and planting schematics for production. -All from the perspective of growing in a challenging climate.

We also cover watering, fertilizing, marker temperatures and ventilation.

Disease and Pests: Many people have the notion that roses are too hard to grow. When we learn the science of the plants’ preferences in our climate and understand how to provide for them, we can grow healthy crops. We also share information and our experiences with disease and pest resistance, prevention, and treatment, growing under cover vs. outside (and how to create structures for roses if you’d like to add cover).

We also examine harvest and post harvest care including the stages of harvest and their pertinence to your type of use or sale.

“Linda's Rose course, I don't even know where to start as it has taught to me love growing my roses again. Living in WNY and being a lover and grower of roses doesn't really go hand in hand. The winters are harsh and unpredictable, the soil is clay, I live on a hill that gets some crazy winds off of Lake Erie. Every year, I was more heart broken by the loss of my favorite roses due to the circumstances above. Linda created a class that was incredibly knowledgeable and she broke the info down in a way that had me excited for what was next. I throughly enjoyed every minute of it and have followed all of her advice & knowledge that she so graciously has decided to share with us growers. If you love roses, love growing roses and live in a climate that isn't the most forgiving to this beautiful flower - take Linda's course! It is worth it!”

I really, really liked the course! It gave me in-depth information, and I feel confident in growing more roses, here in Sweden (appr. American growing zone 5). I do have some roses, but they suffer from massive die-back and now I understand what to look for. The combination book/films is a really good one! Love having the info in print, too. I especially like the charts with specific subjects, like 'on a budget' and 'non-patented roses', etc.

“Roses….at some point I (Jess) started collecting roses. Ordering more each year, yet not entirely certain why. I liked the time they took. Last year I started the year knowing I wanted to do more with roses. I wasn’t sure what that looked like, but I kept my mind and heart open. Then Linda at Little Farmhouse Flowers did a beta class for Cold Climate Rose Growers, which I took and LOVED!!! (I highly recommend this course). Starting this year we will be offering cut roses. We are sooooooo excited to offer our customers local, responsibly grown roses this coming season.
